February 2015 we made a winter trip to Japan. After two autumn trips we wanted to experience the snow covered Hokkaido. So we started our trip with the famous snow and ice festival of Sapporo. After that we made a few stops on Hokkaido, the snow festival of Asahikawa, Abashiri where we made an ice breaker trip, the birds of crane area near Toro and we ended in Hakodate. On Honshu (the main island of Japan) we were happy to have loads of snow on the temples of Yamadera. Soaking in the famous onsen (hot spings) of Kusatsu Onsen was great! We also enjoyed our stay in the traditional places Shirakawa-go and Takayama. We ended our trip in Kyoto, where we were very happy to join a shinto shrine festival with geisha's and maiko's (student geisha). This festival was the start of the plum blossom festival. All together a fabulous trip!
